Since the 14th century, Poland has produced rye distillate flavored with a particular grass eaten by Bison in the Bialowieza, Europe’s largest woods straddling the Polish-Belorussian border, nearly unchanged for over 6,000 years. For this reason, it is commonly referred to in English as “Bison Grass Vodka.” A favorite of the nobility and peasantry alike since the 18th century, Żubrówka was once thought to increase stature and youthfulness of those who drink it.
