HABITATION VELIER LAST WARD 2009

Home   LIQUOR   RUM

The famous Habitation Velier is finally here. Aged in the tropics and bottled without additions or adjustments at full cask strength. This special rum is triple distilled on the wonderful old pot stills from the Mt Gilboa/Mt Gay distillery in St. Lucy Parish. Aged entirely on the Barbados, the barrels in this small batch nearly 65% of its original volume to the angels. The Mt. Gilboa Distillery is famous for being the spiritual home of the Mt. Gay brand, but ownership of the distillery actually belonged to the Ward Family for the last 100 years. The family patriarch Frank Ward is one of the industry's most influential people and has chaired the West Indies Rum & Spirits Association Inc as well as run the refinery until 2014 when the family's interest in the distillery were sold. Now Velier was able to acquire stocks of some of the oldest pot stilled from from that property aged nearly 10 years and exhibiting incredible power and depth. The name pays homage to the family that was so important to the history and quality of Bajan rum, but the pure pot still offering is actually extremely rare for the island. A truly historic offering from one of the world's oldest and highest quality rum distillers.
